This is because it adds to the suspense, as the lights have to be turned off in order for the letters and numbers to glow. Many will find that he séance to have the Ouija board move in the first place is spooky enough, and feel as though not having any lights on will only add to this, and in many instances, this is true. Others will like to have the lights turned off while they are using an Ouija board so that they can truly experience all of the effects of the Ouija board, and perhaps keep the spirit at the board longer as it is more susceptible to come out in the dark.
